Last ful day in Huatulco

Yesterday was our last full day in Huatulco. The day started as always with a beautiful sunrise.

Rebeca made French toast and eggs for breakfast.
The French toast was filled with cream cheese, orange marmalade and Grand Marnier.

Diego took a walk to Punta Arenas where he walked around, swam and flew the kite.
Rebeca had Quesadillas for lunch.

Most of the day was a leisurely one around the villa except for a quick trip to playa la Bocana in Copalita where the boys played in the waves and Mary took a walk by the ocean and the river.

Nick was excited about his purchase the day before in town, the hacki-sack, so he practiced kicking it up in the air.

..to be continued.

Sunrise view from "Chahue", Visit to "La Crucecita" and a Relaxing Evening

Yesterday, as always, was another pleasant day. As I mentioned in my previous blog posting, we left the house at 6:00 AM and drove to "Chahue" beach to see the sunrise.

When we came back Rebeca had made delicious "Huevos Rancheros", beans and sausage for breakfast.

Mary, Jonathan, Nickolas & I walked to "Conejos" beach. Mary & Nick returned home since Nick wasn't in the mood to swim or snorkel. Jonathan & I stayed fishing, swimming & snorkeling. My "flat-friend" the Ray, came out to greet me once more when I was taking a video of the fish swimming around the rocks & corals. We noticed a small snake swimming on the surface. I quickly threw it on the sand and grabbed it by the tail. Eventually we let it go.

We ate delicious "Tlayudas" for lunch around the pool.
We spent early afternoon in the villa. Nick and I wrestled in the pool. He fought vigorously to try to avoid being thrown down in the second pool. Strong boy but still cannot overpower his old dad :).
Later on, for sustenance, he drank the water from a coconut and ate it.

We took a taxi to la "Crucecita", where we walked around shops looking at souvenirs. We stopped at a bakery and bought some pastries. We went to a cafĂ© located in a second floor of a building overlooking the main square. The boys and Mary ordered iced cappuccinos and ate their pastries while a sipped a nice iced-cold "Indio" beer.

We finish the day by having a delicious chicken and alphabet soup and "Enchiladas Verdes" for supper.

Copalita Ruins & Body Surfing

It's Thursday and again I'm having a cup of coffee while writing this blog. We just came back from playa Chahue to see the sunrise. We left at 6:00 AM and sat on the beach. Lots of people exercising: jogging, yoga, stretching, walking on the beach. I went to the peer to see the locals fishing with home-made reels. Mary left for her morning walk.

Yesterday I went snorkeling and fishing first thing in the morning. Didn't catch anything but took a small video of a ray swimming under water.  Got back to the villa and had a great breakfast that included eggs with chorizo and a great variety of fruits.

Jonathan, Nickolas & I went with Gavin and Shawn to the Copalita ruins. We walked through the museum and walked thorough ancient remains: a temple, a ball game building and a rock by the shore to aid the ancient peoples locate the town from the ocean. The path took us to an overlook by the cliffs where we could see where the Copalita river encounters the ocean. Apparently the configuration of the beach was greatly transformed by recent storms.

After leaving the museum we drove to the beach. Bleached-hair surfers sat on the hammock, played the guitar and played with their iPads. A lady had a stand where you could buy the dry clay from the river to make mud and apply it to your face for medicinal or healing purposes. The waves were great and we had a wonderful time standing at shoulder-depth and riding the waves.

Mary stayed at Villa Pacifico and watched Rebeca make a special salsa while sipping a delicious "Chelada" made with lime, ice and "Barrilito" beer.

Back at the villa, Rebeca made sandwiches and had chips with guacamole. We had refreshing drinks by the pool and finished the day with a delicious shrimp & beef shishkabob dinner.

Boating and fishing day

Yesterday was a very exciting day. We hired a boat to go for a trip to San Agustin, go snorkeling there and stop in different beaches along the way. When we started the ride I noticed that the cooler had 6 beers, water and coke but no ice. We stopped at “El Maguey “where we got a bag of ice and another six-pack of beer. Our “captain”, 16 year old Alex, suggested we go looking for Orca whales or some other sea-living creatures. Mary was a little reluctant but I suggested that if after 30 minutes we didn’t see anything we should go straight to the beach. About 10 minutes went by and he veered to the right where he said he saw dolphins. Sure enough, as we were approaching the location, we started seeing their dorsal fins over the water. Pretty soon we were surrounded by them. Some would follow the boat, others jumped way high in the distance. I notice a mom and the baby dolphin swimming side by side.

Mary and Jonathan went to the front of the boat where their heads were facing downwards looking at the dolphins. Nickolas was busy getting his “pro” camera ready and trying to film them under the water.

You could see dolphins all around us, I would guess in a half a mile radius. Down in the water, there were layers of dolphins. When we thought there was no excitement left, we see a different fin sticking out of the water. Alex points at it and tell us is a sword fish. We could see it going around in circles in the middle of all the dolphins, probably feeding on the same fish the dolphins were eating.  Alex already had a line trolling behind the boat, so he decides to throw it by the swordfish to entice it to bite it. The trick worked and before we know it Alex accelerates the boat and we have the swordfish in the hook. He encourages me to bring it in and I started to pull it. It was exciting to see it jumping in the air trying to escape. I guess it took me about 8 minutes to bring it in. Alex takes a rag from the boat and grabs the fish by the sword and pulls it in. I help him grab it and we all take the opportunity to take pictures of the trophy. Alex and I decide to let it loose. He guessed it was about 25 Kg (about 55Lb).

We sailed to San Agustin and went snorkeling while Mary picked up small shells and corals. Rebeca packed a lunch and we ate it in one of the beach.

We took a taxi back from the marina. We spent some time around the pool with the young couple that stayed (the other two older couples left earlier during the day) and topped up the evening with a delicious dinner.  Rebeca, Hugo and Feliciano joined us at the table.

We finished breakfast this morning and now we are ready for the day!

First days in Villa Pacifico

I started late with this blog. Today is Tuesday April 1st and we arrived on Saturday. A couple of the owners of this place and their friends and family are staying here as well. Very nice people.

Mary & I usually wake up early, around 6:00 AM. By then Feliciano has coffee in the pot.

I went running the first morning. I have skipped the last couple of the days since I got my exercise going to Conejos beach. You have to climb very steep steps in the hill to go there. Yesterday I went twice.

It's about 7:40 AM and Rebeca & Hugo are busy preparing breakfast. We plan to go on a boat ride leaving the house at 9:00 AM. It's just the four of us (Mary, Jonathan, Nickolas & I), so this time we have a smaller boat. We're looking forward to going to San Agustin and bring our snorkeling gear. Rebeca will pack some "tortas" for us to eat there (sandwiches made with bread rolls).

Internet bandwidth doesn't seems to be strong so it's taking me a while to upload pictures.

Well, I better get going to get ready for the trip.
